Licensed Wisconsin architects are required to complete 24 Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECHs) every 2 years. Of which, 16 CECHs must be in Health, Safety & Welfare topics.

  • CE Requirement: 24 Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECHs), of which 16 must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW).
  • Renewal Deadline: July 31 of even-numbered years.
  • CE Reporting Cycle: Biennial - Architects must earn the required credits in the 2 years preceding the license renewal. That is to say between August 1 of even-numbered years and July 31 of the next even-numbered year (i.e. between August 1, 2020, and July 31, 2022, for the July 31, 2022 renewal).
  • Acceptable Coursework: The Board does not pre-approve courses or providers. Courses approved by AIA under the HSW designation are generally acceptable. It is up to the licensee to determine whether the activity meets the Board’s requirements. As always, final discretion is up to the Board.
  • Reporting of Credits:  Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Wisconsin Board. Licensees are required to attest that they are in compliance with the Board’s CE requirements on the biennial renewal application. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Tracking of Credits: Licensed architects are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 4 years from the date of the completion.
  • Audits: If it appears an applicant failed to meet the CE requirements, the Board may send notification and request submission of evidence of compliance and/or may require appearance for an interview to address any deficiencies.
  • Carry-Over: A maximum of 8 CECHs may be carried over into the next biennial cycle.
