Minnesota Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

Licensed Minnesota interior designers and architects are required to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education (PDHs) every 2 years.
- CE Requirement: 24 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) every 2 years, all credits must pertain to Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW). A minimum of 2 of the 24 PDHS must be dedicated to Professional Ethics.
- Renewal Date: June 30 of even-numbered years.
- CE Reporting Cycle: Biennial - 2-year period running from July 1 of even-numbered years through June 30 of the following even-numbered year (e.g. July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022).
- Acceptable Coursework: The Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) does not pre-approve courses and activities. Courses approved by AIA and IDCEC under the HSW designation are generally accepted, as outlined in MN Statute 326.107. Final discretion is up to the Board.
- Reporting of Credits: Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID, neither can licensees or certificate holders (except in case of audit). Licensees and certificate holders attest to having met the required continuing education requirements on the license renewal form. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
- Tracking of Credits: Licensees and certificate holders are responsible for keeping record of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 4 years following the registration renewal for which credits were claimed.
- Audit: All interior designers licensed in Minnesota are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the PDHs claimed at renewal.
- Carry-over Credits: No more than 12 PDHs may be carried over from one biennium to the next. No Professional Ethics hours may be used toward carry-over.
