Washington DC Architect Continuing Education Requirements
Micène Fontaine, Mar 31, 2020 9:00:00 AM
Washington DC architects are required to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.
- CE Requirement: 24 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every 2 years, all of which must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) subjects.
- Renewal Deadline: April 30 of even-numbered years.
- CE Cycle: Biennial - Credits must be earned in the 2 year period immediately preceding the license renewal date. E.g. credits earned between May 1, 2020 and April 30, 2022 will count towards your April 30, 2022 renewal.
- Acceptable Coursework: The District of Columbia Board of Architecture & Interior Design does not pre-approve courses. Courses approved by AIA under the HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) designation are generally accepted. It is the licensee's responsibility to use their professional judgement to determine if an activity meets the Board's criteria. Final discretion is up to the Board.
- Reporting of Credits: Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the District of Columbia (DC) Board. Licensees must be prepared to submit documentation (e.g. a transcript or certificates from the course providers). Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
- Audit: All architects licensed in Washington DC are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the PDUs claimed at renewal.
- Carry-Over: Not permitted.
