Interior Design and Architecture Continuing Education Requirements

Delaware Architect License Renewal

Written by Cindy Grant | Jan 28, 2020 3:30:00 PM

Licensed Delaware architects are required to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.

  • CE Requirement:  24 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) earned in the two calendar years prior to renewal with at least 8 CEUs earned per calendar year (meaning you cannot earn all 24 CEUs in one calendar year). All 24 CEUs must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) subjects.
  • Renewal Date:  January 31 of even-numbered years.
  • CE Cycle: Biennial - Licensees are required to earn continuing education within the 2 calendar years immediately preceding the renewal date. (i.e. credits must be earned between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2023 for January 2023 renewal).
  • Acceptable Coursework:  The Delaware Board of Architects does not pre-approve courses. Courses approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA)  are generally accepted but it is the registrant's responsibility to use their professional judgment to determine if an activity meets the Board's criteria as summarized in this post and as detailed on Board's website. Final discretion is up to the Board.
  • Reporting of Credits:  Licensees are required to attest to the completion of continuing education requirements as a condition of license renewal. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Tracking of Credits: Licensees are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 6 years from the date received.
  • Audit:  All architects licensed in Delaware are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the credits claimed at renewal.
  • Carry-over Credits: Not permitted.
