Alabama architects are required to complete 12 hours of Continuing Education every year.
- CE Requirement: 12 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) every calendar year, all of which must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) credits.
- Renewal Date: December 31 of every year.
- CE Cycle: Annual - Registrants are required to complete the continuing education within the calendar year preceding the renewal date. (i.e. credits must be obtained between January 1 to December 31, 2022).
- Acceptable Coursework: All 12 hours must be earned as structured study (i.e. seminar, internet or correspondence course). The Alabama Board of Architects does not pre-approve providers of continuing education. Courses approved by AIA are generally accepted. It is the registrant's responsibility to be familiar with the Board's criteria.
- Reporting of Credits: Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Alabama Board. Registrants must certify that they are in compliance with the Board's requirements on the annual renewal application. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
- Tracking of Credits: Members are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 1 year from the renewal date for which they were claimed.
- Audit: All architects registered in Alabama are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the CEHs claimed at renewal.
- Carry-over Credits: Not permitted.
